First up, I think we're officially in the home stretch with The Next Food Network Star. Mrs. TVFF turned to me last night during the episode and stated that she didn't see a watchable star among the group. She may be right, but last night did give me a bit of hope that the eventual winner can handle him/herself on camera pretty well. I'm still not sold that there is a compelling food program coming from one of these folks, but I'll take a show with someone who works well off a prompter.A former accountant for Rachael Ray’s cooking show has filed a $1 million lawsuit saying he was forced out of his job because he has an eating disorder.
Aaron Ferguson says in Manhattan court papers that he has suffered from anorexia for about six years. He says his supervisor repeatedly exhibited "hostile behavior" and made "vile," discriminatory and hurtful comments.
...
The lawsuit names CBS Corp., CBSTD Inc., and three individual employees of the show as defendants. Ray is not named.

Has Rachel Ray chosen hope as her main ingredient for the presidential race? I've learned she will interview Obama and his wife Michelle today on the campaign trail.Glad to know our political fates are being determined, at least in part, by daytime talk shows. Swing by Everything Rachael Ray, who I'm sure will have more on this. While you're there, be sure to congratulate Madeline on the new addition to her family.
I was a little surprised that they kept the format going with Symon, figuring that they would just kind of let it slip away and then come back with a similarly-themed program, slotting in whatever new chef they wanted. But the story notes that D:I is the Network's third highest rated show, so I guess there's no reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater.Symon is stepping in at "Dinner: Impossible" after Food Network got egg on its face after it was revealed by the St. Petersburg Times in early February that host Robert Irvine exaggerated a wee bit on his resume. Like that bit about cooking for England's royal family. And being friends with Prince Charles. And being a White House chef. And having a college degree in food and cooking from the University of Leeds. And being a knight.
The format of the show won't change. Symon won't know where he's going until he gets to the airport and won't know his cooking mission until he arrives at the site, and will have 12 hours to finish the mission.

You may or may not be aware of this, but there was a pretty big football game that took place yesterday.Rachel Ray Show, February 1: The Super Bowl is Sunday ... but first three gridiron greats are going head to head in Rach's kitchen! Only one will win and superstar chef Mario Batali will be the judge.
Going toe-to-toe(-to-toe) with former Giants running back Ottis Anderson and Jets tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Harrington whips up a batch of his baby back ribs and creamy corn potato mash. Delish!Being a pretty big football fan, I'm a little more interested in this from the non-food perspective. In case those names don't look familiar to you:

You'll remember that, last week, we linked to a story about Rachael Ray allegedly going crazy and trashing Dunkin Donuts during a photo shoot? She says: "Not so fast." She's telling OK! magazine (the credibility is evident in the exclamation point) that it was:"Ridiculous," she said when asked about the scurrilous rumor. "It's ridiculous. It's absolutely ridiculous."OK, Rach. Here's some free advice for you. Everyone has been comparing you to various other lifestyle gurus. I think you know to whom I'm alluding.

As mentioned in our post last night referencing the report in the New York Times, Food Network today announced that they have re-signed Rachael Ray to a new two-year deal. I was up bright and early and braving the windswept streets of Hell’s Kitchen (this one, not this one) this past Saturday to cover the Rachael Ray/Dunkin’ Donuts “Gingerbread Express” event in New York City. The festivities were held in the New York Waterways Terminal and featured the kick-off of a national card drive to support Soldiers’ Angels, as well as the unveiling of Dunkin’ Donuts’ donation of one ton of coffee to service-people deployed around the world.
The event was held at the Waterways Terminal, which is where the ferries from New Jersey dock. Riders were greeted by servers clad in Dunkin’ Donuts scarves and Santa hats serving samples of hot chocolate and gingerbread lattes (pretty tasty). The visitors were invited into the main room, where cards were available for them to write messages to men and women serving in the armed forces.
The crowd grew a bit and, after a little while, Rachael Ray came out and greeted the crowd. She spent a few minutes in one-on-one interviews with a couple of folks from the press before disappearing backstage. Jon Luther, the CEO of Dunkin’ Brands, took to the stage and introduced Rachael as “brand ambassador” before correcting himself and saying “beloved brand ambassador,” which elicited a shout of “Thanks, Jon!” from Rachael backstage.
Out came Rachael, who told the crowd that she was thankful for the chance to be there, and proud to be representing Dunkin’ Donuts. She said that she was particularly proud of the fact that they had eliminated trans-fats from their products and admitted that possibly the best part of the deal was that she got free coffee. She spoke about the cards, which she called “the best gift service people can get this year – a hug.” She spoke a bit about Soldiers’ Angels and the work that they did.
In addition to the one-ton donation, customers at Dunkin’ Donuts stores will be able to fill out cards just like the ones at the event. The cards will be included in care packages sent to service-people during the holiday season.
The crowd seemed really excited for the chance to see Rachael Ray in person. Being up close to Rachael Ray made me acutely aware of her tremendous skills as a brand spokes-person. During the interviews she was giving, it was clear that she was getting in all of the important information into the conversation, which should be surprising when you consider that she is someone who became famous for explaining multi-step recipes quickly, clearly and concisely.
We had our trust point-and-click with us and we were able to capture a couple of photos, with admittedly mediocre results. Hey, this blog is about food TV, not photography. Check out the pics below…you can click to see the full-size version.

There may not be a more miserable soul than an undercaffinated New Yorker trying to get across town to do his or her holiday shopping. Fortunately, this Saturday, that won't be a problem.
Rachael Ray will be appearing at the New York Waterway Terminal to greet shoppers, provide special holiday trolley service, give out samples of Dunkin Donuts products and, most importantly, announce a big donation to benefit those serving in the armed forces.
Rachael Ray will be at the New York Waterway Terminal on the Hudson River to greet holiday shoppers.
Here she’ll announce a one-ton donation of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee to Soldiers’ Angels, one of the nation’s largest volunteer-based nonprofit military support organizations providing aid and comfort to our nation’s deployed soldiers and their families. Rachael Ray will also greet armed services personnel and announce a national holiday card drive with Dunkin’ Donuts and Soldiers’ Angels.
New York City holiday shoppers will be urged to fill out holiday cards that will be sent to service men and women stationed outside the U.S. Shoppers can then hop on the Gingerbread Express, a trolley service offering free rides to top Manhattan shopping destinations.
The event will be taking place on Saturday, December 1, 2007 from 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM, and Rachael will be there around 10:00 AM. The Terminal is on the Hudson river at West 39th Street.

I'd like to introduce you to a new feature here on TVFF. It's a semi-regular new series, which means that I'll post something in this vein whenever I'm too lazy to actually come up with a real topic. It's called "Like/Don't Like," and it will center on a theme of some sort that is somehow relevant to two things, one that I like and one that I don't. Confused yet? Good.
For example, today's topic is "cinematography."
Like: Alton Brown's second season of Feasting on Asphalt. Just as we said in our review of the first season, the show is almost a "playground" for the cinematographer in AB, and he takes the opportunity to try out some new toys and techniques. Part of it is necessary, having to travel light, and therefore unencumbered by the trappings of a full video crew. But part of it is the ethos of the road, which he is able to capture to a much greater degree in these digital video cameras. They're light, they're portable and they're on the move, even though they still haven't managed to work their way out of Louisiana by the end of the first episode.
The only reservation that I do have with the new season is the unfortunate decision to tinker with the format of the pre-commercial bumper, which now features the postcard-on-a-map motif rather than the slow zoom over three photos that they used last year. I greatly prefer last year's model. Feel free to share your opinions in the comments below if you feel differently.
Don't Like: The new season of 30-Minute Meals. Love the new digs, Rachael. Love the new look, too. Don't love the shaky-cam. It's not overwhelming, but when the camera dollies from side to side in the new kitchen, they're incorporating a little bit of a first-season-of-NYPD Blue thing that is slowly driving me nuts. Just like Blue toned it down considerably, I'm hoping they'll do the same on 30MM.

The folks at Food Network aren't the only ones looking to go high-tech with food information. AT&T announced today that they're going to be introducing exclusive content from Rachael Ray available direct to your cell phone.
The new venture is a partnership with LimeLife, who will provide the content to AT&T subscribers exclusively for the first 60 days. The service, called Rachael Ray Recipes on the Run, will include a bunch of features according to a press release from AT&T.
Delicious Recipes! Enjoy 40 new recipes every month. Consumers can browse recipes by main ingredient or category, and get cooking tips from Rachael herself. My Shopping List. Automatically add recipe ingredients to a shopping list directly on your wireless device. When more than one recipe is added, the quantities of identical ingredients will be combined. A bonus feature includes advanced interactivity that allows you to add custom ingredients and mark off items as you shop! Rachael's Quick Picks! A fun, random-recipe generator, Rachael's Quick Picks allows users to spin Rachael's EVOO (extra-virgin olive oil) bottle to get "delish!" meal inspirations. My Keepers. Mark recipes you like, and store them to your wireless phone for easy reference. Recipe Sharing. E-mail your favorite recipes from your phone to friends and family.
Fans of Rachael will likely enjoy the many features, and the "My Shopping List" aspect looks particularly neat and useful. The service will cost $2.99 a month and AT&T subscribers can order the Rachael content at the Rachael Ray page on LimeLife's site. For those of you who already have AT&T:
Here's how AT&T wireless customers can subscribe:Although I'm not a big user of my cell phone for things like this, I am surgically attached to my Blackberry. (The folks at AT&T will be happy to know that both of my devices use their service, although I'm still trying to get my rebate for the Motorola RAZR I bought.) These types of devices will allow you to get to a wide variety of content, but the formatting is often less than ideal. Companies and media outlets that customize their content and make it easier for mobile browsers to view it are demonstrating some tremendous foresight and will be reaping the benefits in the future.
Go to the Menu,
Select Cingular Mall,
Scroll down to the Shop Applications option.
Rachael Ray Recipes on the Run is located in the "Featured Picks", "New Arrivals", "Living" and "Shopping & Local" sections.
And even if you're one of those folks who scoffs at the idea of browsing the internet from you cell phone or PDA while riding a train or sitting in a park, just remember that ten years ago you probably also didn't see the point of having a cell phone with you all the time or being able read about food TV news from some goofball in New Jersey.

Those Tyler Florence spots aren't the only commercials running seemingly non-stop on my TV these days. There's also one from my favorite donuts chain that had a food TV tie-in. But the question is whether you're seeing it, too.
There was a post a while back about Rachael Ray signing on as spokeswoman for Dunkin' Donuts, purveyors of a wide variety of donuts and breakfast sandwiches that hold a paralyzing grip on me. I could eat a bacon, egg and cheese on a poppy bagel every day of my life if I could justify it to my cholesterol. But, alas, all things in moderation.
So they've been running the commercials for the past week or so and they feature an on-the-go Rachael stopping by her local DD to pick up some coffee. The "new guy" working at the store gets introduced to her when she makes her sudden (and speedy) entrance. It's pretty cute, and not terribly surprising that they have a creative spot since their last campaign was pretty good, too. Here is the press release announcing the new commercial.
Created by Hill Holiday of Boston, Massachusetts, the new $40 million multi-channel marketing campaign consists of a media mix of television, radio, print, outdoor and online spot placements. In addition, Dunkin' Donuts will augment its advertising campaign with in-store marketing and personal appearances by Ray to benefit the brand. The campaign reflects the company's "America Runs on Dunkin'" platform and showcases Ray on the move at a fast pace, visiting a Dunkin' Donuts store for her morning coffee and bagel.
"Rachael Ray embodies the spirit of our loyal customers," said Robert Rodriguez, Dunkin' Donuts brand president. "As an energetic self-starter,
she not only understands the benefits of a great-tasting cup of Dunkin' Donuts coffee served fast, she also counts on it to fuel her every day."
And -- whaddya know!?! -- I'm not the only one who thinks the ad is pretty good. The columnist over at the Chicago Sun-Times gave it a "B+." The campaign has also garnered a couple of mentions in other places, including this article from a paper down in Austin ("The stars at night, are big and bright..." Sorry for the Pee Wee's Big Adventure digression.) They point out in the piece that the new campaign coincides with DD's movie into the Austin market, so having a national celebrity gives them an "in" with the locals.
So, are any of you who live in "non-DD land" seeing the spots? Or is it just for those of us with a Dunkin' presence and those who will soon be getting one? Let us know.

There are two kinds of programs on E! Entertainment Television: The trashy kind and Saturday Night Live reruns. And I'm not even sure that they still show the reruns. OK, The Soup is pretty awesome, but one thirty-minute clip show is not enough redeem an entire network.
But nothing is trashier than E!'s flagship show, True Hollywood Story. And now, one of your favorite Food Network celebrities is getting the THS treatment.
That's right, not only is THS taking on Rachael Ray. According to this article in the Jamaica Gleaner ("Your #1 Source for All Things Rachael Ray"), she actually decided to play along.
What prompted you to take such an active role in your 'E! True Hollywood Story' episode when so many others use only archival footage of the subject?A guy who was filming it and was very involved in the show is an old, dear friend. If anyone is interested in talking to to you about your life, why not be nice about it and talk to them?
Well, that's certainly nice of her to lend a hand to an old friend. I'm also guessing that her participation will possibly soften some of the coverage in the show, particularly around her husband. I have a feeling that regular THS viewers might be disappointed, though, since most profiles of perky, bubbly stars only get interesting when they go on a week-long booze bender or join a cult.
Anyway, if you want to tune in, check it out at the times below.

Thanks to loyal TVFF reader Chip for passing this along!
I don't want to spend a whole lot of time on this. First of all, I already did this post once. Of course, I did this post because the same site, The Celebrity Baby Blog, has already run what was basically the same story a couple of months back.
So, here we go: Rachael Ray is still not going to have a baby any time soon. It came up this time because she was asked about it on The View. How did I miss that episode.
As you can probably tell from my tone, I absolutely LOVE talking about which celebrities are having babies and which aren't.
But, today I will make an exception and bring you some EXCLUSIVE celebrity baby news.
Other celebrities who will not be having babies include Bea Arthur and RuPaul.
This has been a service of TV Food Fan.
UPDATE: Rachael will also be appearing in Dunkin' Donuts (mmmmm....donuts) commercials. I'm too tired to write about it, but Madeline at Everything Rachael Ray is all over it.Labels: Rachael Ray

Sometimes, we like tracking down a story, pouring our blood, sweat and tears into it. Other times, we like it when someone reads our post and sends us stuff. This is one of those times.
You can click on the picture over there to see the full-sized Rachael Ray wax figure. As we said in the first post, the figure is wearing a pair of a pair of "farylrobin brown boots." Mrs. TVFF is the shoe expert in the family, not me, so I didn't actually know what that meant. Now I do!
The photo features Wax-Rachael posing with Faryl Robin Morse, designer of Farylrobin Footwear and maker of the boots pictured. The image was taken at Rachael's studios last week, and you'll be able to see the figure (and Ms. Morse) on tomorrow's show. Morse is also partnering with Endless.com to provide audience members with a special surprise, so be sure to tune in to see what that is. Plus, John Stamos is on the episode, and if Uncle Jesse can't get you to tune in, I don't know what can.
If you like the boots, you can get yourself a pair over at Zappos.com.

We all know that it can be tough to score tickets to a taping of Rachael Ray's talk show, but you still might be able to get a chance to see the culinary star on your next trip to New York City. That is, of course, if you're willing to settle for a wax stand-in.
Madame Tussuad's New York, which I've walked past many times but never even remotely considered entering, will be unveiling a wax figure of Rachael Ray. Aiding in the festivities will be Ms. Ray herself, leading to the inevitable side-by-side photograph and the HILARIOUS "the wax one is on the left" captions. Can't wait for that.
Not only will the figure be Rachael's spitting image. The museum will also be adding an installation to exhibit Rachael in her native habitat:
Rachael’s wax figure stands in a replica of the brightly colored kitchen from her hit syndicated daily daytime show. The figure holds a coffee mug and is wearing a red wrap dress, brown tank top, horseshoe diamond necklace and tall farylrobin brown boots. Madame Tussauds visitors will be able to get into the kitchen and stand next to and take photos with Rachael’s figure.
The whole event will be taking place tomorrow, February 21st from 5:30-6:00. We'll see if we can track down some photos of the festivites. As always, anyone who manages to get their picture taken with Rachael (either the real one or the replica) and would like to share it, be sure to send them along to mike@tvfoodfan.com.
